GreenFig, a market-driven education company that provides universities with turnkey, experiential learning programs in applied business science, today announced it has signed 10 campuses since last year, including: doctoral universities, nationally ranked liberal arts colleges, and regionally ranked community colleges. By regularly adapting its program offerings based on learner feedback, qualitative input from expert practitioners, and quantitative occupational data, GreenFig enables learners to gain the in-demand digital skills and professional experience industry seeks to advance, re-enter, or launch a career in 14-weeks.

“Fast-paced technology is driving tremendous career opportunity, but underemployment persists because of a gap between skills and experience for talent entering or reentering the workforce,” said Sara Leoni, CEO of GreenFig. "Together with our university partners, we provide learners with a foundation in business science, which combines hands-on technology certifications and real-world experience that puts theory into practice—a requirement for career mobility in an increasingly data-driven economy.”

The ability to create actionable insights from complex data sets is a universal need across every business industry. Almost half of U.S. employers, 46 percent, say they are unable to find the skilled people they need to compete—while a recent study by Burning Glass Technologies cites underemployment as a cycle plaguing the modern workforce. More than 10,000 specialized business applications exist today, yet 70 percent of digital initiatives will fail, primarily due to digital and experience skill gaps. Failure to achieve a desired outcome is cited as a top reason that technology providers lose customers as well.

Central to GreenFig’s pedagogy is the Apprentorship™, a mentored apprenticeship-like experience where students collaborate with skilled industry practitioners to solve real-world problems for companies. Working collaboratively in teams, students develop a portfolio of fully executed projects and gain skills using live-production instances of leading business applications to address actual business challenges. Their efforts culminate in a final project presentation where students report the thesis for their strategy, findings from their implementation, and recommendations for future iterations, to members of the companies’ management teams and other business executives.

“GreenFig shares our passion for putting students at the center of a new kind of experiential learning that has the opportunity to unlock the digital workforce at scale,” said Therese Ammiro, Assistant Dean at UC Santa Cruz Extension, Silicon Valley Campus. “With the wide adoption of Salesforce across industries, we saw an opportunity to provide students with a work-ready pathway that aligns with rapidly evolving employer demands.”

“Sponsoring the Apprentorship™ was like inviting a small agency or digital consultancy to come in, complete and present a well-executed project, while gaining incredibly valuable ideas and insights along the way,” said Johannon Olson, Co-Founder and COO of Treehut. “GreenFig’s authentic learning model is truly helping to create the next generation of digital-ready talent.”

In a mission to provide access and opportunity for all learners, GreenFig offers scholarships for working adults and professionals through partnerships with The Paradigm Switch, an organization that focuses on supporting spouses of active duty military, and Reboot Accel, which helps women return to the workforce. Additionally, GreenFig collaborates with the US Olympics and Paralympic Committee to support athletes who are ready to transition into careers. Since last year, GreenFig has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships and is committed to matching that amount annually.

Professionals who have completed GreenFig programs are employed by a range of startups, top tech firms and Fortune 100 companies. All graduates walk away with a portfolio of their work, a certification in Applied Business Science and industry-recognized credentials, certifications or badges earned directly from companies such as: Google, Salesforce, Facebook, HubSpot, and more. Institutions also typically award students with their own high-value credentials that might include a certificate or letter of completion, continuing education units, and sometimes even academic credit.
