The fall session of the GreenFig Digital Marketing Science course starts this week!  We are thrilled to have Kent Schnepp leading the charge on our Google Analytics module.

With more than 18 years of digital marketing experience working with top-tier clients such as U.S. Bank, Lifelock, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, BBC, and Home Depot, Kent was recognized as one of the top Forty Under 40 executives by the Portland Business Journal. In 2006 Kent co-founded EngineWorks, a data-driven search marketing agency located in Portland, Oregon. EngineWorks was acquired by ethology in February 2011. Most recently, Kent founded Odysys, a digital marketing platform for inns, bed & breakfasts, and small hotels.

To get a snapshot of what he will be teaching, read his blog below. With GreenFig, you can earn a microdegree in applied business science in just 10 hours a week for 16 weeks – is it time to start increasing your earning potential?

Digital marketing (SEO, SEM, email, social, etc) has become the primary form of marketing. Why? There are a number of reasons, but I believe the most important to be the ability to measure results.

Let us say you were a marketing manager of a mobile app to help people track down the best ice cream shops. Your lifetime value of each app install is around $100. You have been tasked with generating 500 installs in 30 days or roughly $50,000. Your budget is $2,500.

You have two options to acquire app installs:

  1. Purchase a billboard ad on a heavily trafficked freeway for $2,500. Or…
  2. Invest $2,500 in an advertising channel allowing you to show ads to individuals who live in major metropolitan areas, enjoy ice cream, and have an income of over $50k.

Which would you choose? Number 2 of course!

So how does this apply to analytics? Analytics allow you to track your digital marketing efforts. They are the key to understanding whether or not your $2,500 generated $50,000 in 30 days.

Now that we understand why digital marketing and analytics go hand-in-hand. Let us review why you should invest your time in learning Google Analytics, the most popular analytics platform around.

1. Google Analytics is Free

Yep, you read that right! Google Analytics is completely free. Google does not charge you anything for using it.

2. It is Easy to Use

Out of every analytics platform I have used (which is a considerable amount), I believe Google Analytics to be the most thoughtfully designed. Installation of tracking codes is simple, navigating to default reports is easy, and documentation is accessible.

3. Deep Insights into Users and Visitors

Google Analytics provides a dizzying amount of data about visitors. This data is the key to determining how your digital marketing efforts are performing.

4. Real-Time Tracking

Interested in understanding how your users are interacting with your web application or website? Google analytics provide real-time reporting that does just that.

5. Google Analytics is Customizable

Looking for actionable data outside of the default reports? Simply create your own using the drag-and-drop interface.

So there you have it. If you are looking for a way to improve your marketing acumen or increase your earning potential, look at GreenFig’s course schedule! Hope to see you in class.
